Honorably discharged veterans who completed the required duty period may be entitled to a wide range of burial, cremation, and memorial benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA). Spouses and minor children may also qualify for burial benefits in some circumstances.

VA burial benefits are not automatic. It can be daunting to understand the eligibility and allowance guidelines. Our designated VFS locations walk you step-by-step through the process. We make sure that you understand which benefits apply and help you fill out and file the necessary paperwork. There is no additional cost for this personalized service – it is our privilege.

What We Do

VFS is an earned designation for funeral, cremation, and cemetery professionals who complete special training and follow our Code of Ethics. Veterans and their family members deserve personalized service with meticulous attention to detail and paperwork. Our highly-trained funeral directors provide immediate and preplanning arrangements.

While government-issued headstones, markers, and medallions cannot be personalized, let us show you high-quality memorial products that can be customized to reflect your loved one’s individual style. We help you create a meaningful funeral or service.

Veterans Burial Benefits at a Glance

Who Is Eligible:

  • A veteran who departed from the service on conditions not classified as dishonorable
  • A member of the Selected Reserve discharged due to disability (either aggravated by service or occurred on duty)
  • An individual enlisted for at least one term in Selected Reserve and departed on conditions not classified as dishonorable
  • A spouse or minor child of a veteran (currently living or not)
  • In specific situations, an unmarried adult dependent child of a veteran
  • Other eligibility as determined by the VA for particular groups or in times of war
What They May Receive:

  • Burial allowance for burial, cremation, and funeral costs
  • Plot or interment allowance for gravesite or interment in a state, tribal, or private cemetery
  • Transportation reimbursement for transporting casket or cremated remains to a final resting place
  • Transportation allowance for transporting a veteran to a national cemetery
  • Eligible veterans only may receive an allowance or reimbursement for a headstone, marker, medallion; burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate
